LIBRARY INFORMATION
 Library Cards

Library cards are issued free of charge to residents of  Mechanic Falls, and children may receive a card once they have entered kindergarten. Adults must present proof of current address at time of application. The fee for Non-resident cards is $10.00 per year, but may be used by the whole family.

Circulation

All books circulate for a 2 week period. Renewals may be made in person, or by telephone, as long as there are no reserves for the particular item. The limit on renewals is 3 times. We ask that patrons limit themselves to no more than 3 books on the same topic, or by the same author,so that we might share our limited resources with one another.  We also ask that you limit your DVD selections to 3 per household.  DVD's are due back the next time the library is open.

Fines

Adults will be fined for overdue books at the rate of 50 cents per book per week. Overdue videos will be fined at a rate of 50 cents per day overdue.

There are no fines on overdue children's books, but it is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to see that all books are returned on time.

When we are not open, items may be returned through the slot on the right as you face the library door.

You will be contacted by the librarian if you do not return overdue, and after 3 such warnings, if the items are still not returned, the police will be notified.

Lost/Damaged books must be paid for (replacement or repair).

New books are limited to 2 per checkout.

Reserves may be requested at any time.  If we do not have a book in our collection, you may enter an Interlibrary Loan request.  We regret that we have to charge a nominal fee of $2.00 per book per loan.  The loans may take anywhere from a couple of days to a month, so give yourself sufficient lead time when requesting an item.

Computer

We have a computer available for public use that is also connected to the Internet.  Period of use is limited to  30 minutes per user per day.

The parent or guardian must complete a form in person to allow children under 18 computer access.

Behavior

Shirts and shoes must be worn at all times in the library. Excessive noise, inappropriate behavior, or violence will not be tolerated. If our request to stop any such behavior is not heeded, the individual(s) involved will be asked to leave the library. Failure to comply will be reported to the authorities.
